With the last line pulled from the cleat, we’re off the dock and out to Sea. Fenders pulled up, I take a deep breath, look back and bid adieu to the parting views of *Schooner Island Marina, our summertime landing pad.
Cool breeze at our nose and the quiet hum of the engines, ahhhh peace and freedom. This is why we love boating!
The Maryland 37 is a great boat. Her wide body and 2 hulls ensure smooth cruising. Inside the cabin, the wrap-around windows provide panoramic changing views, ahhhh the views! Our boat, Mares Diem, is the owner’s version. On the port side you’ll find a comfortable stateroom with a full size bed, a full bathroom, 2 closets and plenty of storage. There are 2 smaller berths on the starboard side.
With Rich driving the boat, I work comfortably from the parlor table. I give my eyes a rest from the computer screen, take a deep breath and gaze out the windows at the changing scenic views, meadows, pine trees, Navy ships, lovely homes and palm trees as we approach the Carolinas.
While cruising, breakfast and lunch will be simple and enjoyed from the flybridge. The galley provides an electric stovetop, convection oven, small refrigerator and pantry space. Dinner will take place after we anchor. We grill fish and vegetables and enjoy our waterfront table for two. Just us, the boat and the white heron on the nearby bank seeking his catch of the day.
While cruising south in the fall, days are short, so an early rise is a must. Anchor up by 6:00am and off we go down the ICW for another 12 hour day, where the Journey is often the best part of the trip!
Schooner Island Marina is a great place to keep your boat while in Wildwood. Located on Lake Road in Wildwood, Schooner Island is within walking distance to many bars, restaurants, banks and stores.
The Marina features a pool, picnic area and laundry facilities. Many of my clients prefer a condo on the West side, where they can be within walking distance to their favorite bars, restaurants and marina’s.
