Cape May, New Jersey

Charming Victorian Seaside Town

Spending a Day in Historic Cape May is not nearly enough time to enjoy this charming Victorian Seaside Town. Cape May, Known as America’s oldest Seaside resort with over  600 Victorian preserved homes and restored Hotels.  Located at the southern tip of New Jersey’s peninsula, it’s actually an island with a canal running from the inlet over to the Delaware Bay.

To get to Cape May, most people will take the Garden State Parkway south all the way to Exit 0. You can also take the Cape May Lewes Ferry  for an 1 ½ ferry ride from Lewes, Delaware.  You’ll love walking or biking around the quaint tree lined streets. You won’t find any big box or chain stores here. Along the Washington Street Mall is where you’ll find a bunch of custom eclectic small shops, antique shops, restaurants and bars. There is a ton to do in Cape May. In addition to enjoying the beautiful beach, you can head out to sea on a Fishing boat or a Dolphin watching tour. Be sure to walk the Lighthouse steps to the top, check out the nature trails and Bird observatory.  The Mid Atlantic Center of the Arts offers, Carriage rides, Victorian house tours, Ghost tours and a plethora of plays throughout the year. There are jazz and Singer Songwriter festivals throughout the year.  Spend an afternoon at a luxurious spa.  Fantastic Wineries, distilleries and Breweries  ( After this video, be sure to check out the video tour I did of our local wineries I’ll link it below in the description box ) And then there’s the dining. While you’ll find some great pizza shops and the casual eateries are anything but ordinary, with your dinner choices, you will not be disappointed. The town is filled with award winner restaurants. One of my favorites, Peter Shields Inn. To sit in a Beautiful Victorian Home with the sweet smell of the sea blowing in the breeze and then to be served an amazingly prepared  dinner with fresh local seafood and produce, is just truly delightful and unforgettable. The only thing that might beat it is coming around Christmas time when the city is decorated and the Victorian homes look like Gingerbread houses with lights. About 4000 people call Cape May Home on a year round basis and then in the summer the population grows to around 40,000.00. Although most people seem to visit during the summer to be able to enjoy the beautiful beach, every season in Cape May offers an amazing experience.
