Spending a Day in Historic Cape May is not nearly enough time to enjoy this charming Victorian Seaside Town. Cape May, Known as America’s oldest Seaside resort with over  600 Victorian preserved homes and restored Hotels. It really is such a great beach town and so unique with all of the Victorian architecture. Cape May is located at the southern tip of New Jersey’s peninsula, it’s actually an island with a canal running from the inlet over to the Delaware Bay.

To get to Cape May, most people will take the Garden State Parkway south all the way to Exit 0. We left from Wildwood and it took us just 10 minutes to get to Cape May. You can also take the Cape May Lewes Ferry for a 1 ½ ferry ride from Lewes, Delaware.  You’ll love walking or biking around the quaint tree lined streets of Cape May. The Victorian Homes are so beautiful, with their large front porches and beautiful gardens. When the weather is nice, it is an awesome walking town. You won’t find any big box or chain stores here. Along the Washington Street Mall is where you’ll find a bunch of custom eclectic small shops, antique shops, restaurants and bars. There is a ton to do in Cape May.

Check out the Mid Atlantic Center of the Arts for tickets to plays, concerts, Jazz festivals,  House tours, and lighthouse tours. Day and evening Carriage rides are also popular.  Head out to sea on a fishing charter or a Dolphin watching tour. Spend an afternoon at a luxurious spa.

Check out the Nature trails and bird observatory. And not to be missed, Salt Marsh Safari and Alpaca farms. We actually have two, Jersey Shore Alpacas and Bay Springs Alpacas. There are numerous Wineries, Distilleries and Breweries in the area.  ( After this video, be sure to check out the video tour I did of our local wineries. I’ll link it below in the description box ) And then there’s the dining. While you’ll find some great pizza shops and the casual eateries are anything but ordinary, with your dinner choices, you will not be disappointed. The town is filled with award winner restaurants.

To sit in a Beautiful Victorian Home with the sweet smell of the sea blowing in the breeze and then to be served an amazingly prepared  dinner with fresh local seafood and produce, is just truly delightful and unforgettable. The only thing that might beat it is coming down in December during the Holidays when the city is decorated and the Victorian homes look like Gingerbread houses with lights.

About 4000 people call Cape May Home on a year round basis and then in the summer the population grows to around 40,000.00. Although most people seem to visit during the summer to be able to enjoy the beautiful beach, every season in Cape May offers an amazing experience.

Okay, as promised let’s go check out 818 Washington Avenue.
